My name is Barbara Czyzewska, here at Glion Institute of Higher Education I serve as head of specialization in Luxury brand strategy.
This specialization prepares our students for services and goods in a wider luxury sector. This specialization lasts 12 weeks in total and includes 5 topics.
We start by analyzing the economics of luxury. Here, we introduce the topic of luxury in a general and sociological term.
In topic 2, we introduce our students to brand identity. Here, in this topic, we prepare our students for looking analytically at the brands and actually introducing marketing strategies that will maintain strong and long-lasting luxury brands.
Topic 3 looks at marketing and marketing communication very specifically for luxury brands. Here we adapt some of the classic models of marketing to enhance the image, to maintain the luxury brand with a very strong heritage.
The fourth topic of specialization looks specifically at service excellence. This is what differentiates luxury from premium. Exceptional service, attention to detail, and that relationship with the customer.
The last topic of specialization prepares our students for the modern customer. And what do these customers want? They want to live exceptional experiences.
Specialization in luxury opens the doors to many different sectors. It’s retail, it’s widely understood services. Generally speaking, wherever you have contact with a customer, you need these extraordinary skills.
I came to the school, to learn more about luxury. To be more in-depth about it, to gain a completely different knowledge regarding this topic. Through this course, I was able to learn to interpret luxury, not just as something that is specifically like a product or something that is materialistic. Luxury can be anything. It can be a dream, it could be an experience. And this is one thing that we’ve also learned a lot in luxury, how these brands formulate the so-called dream equation.
Every year, our students participate in a field trip. In the past, we have been for example in Milan, where our students had the opportunity to visit some of the most luxurious hotels as well as some of the luxury boutiques.
Students really enjoyed this element of specialization, because they get to see how luxury is delivered in real-life scenarios.
In Milan, we were given different choices to see which hotels we want to visit. For me personally, I had the chance to visit Principe di Savoia, the Excelsior in Milan, the Armani Hotel in Milan, and Park Hyatt. And I think this was a really great experience in terms of getting to see how different each of these 5 stars hotels are to one another.
On your BBA program, you get to understand the concept of luxury, you get to understand the customers who engage in luxury. How do we create the luxury brand and how do we use marketing communication to maintain the identity of that brand? You have then, the unique opportunity to progress to the Master’s degree, where you will study luxury, on a much more analytical level.
